CBM2 Calls KU ‘Home’

The team at CBM2 is excited to bring our efforts to The University of Kansas in August 2016. The Center will be based out of the Multidisciplinary Research Building (MRB) in the West District of KU’s Lawrence campus.

MRB is a 106,000 ft2 facility that opened in 2006, offering state-of-the-art labs for disciplines such as chemistry, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, biology, engineering, geology, and computer sciences. Features of the building include BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratory suites, cleanroom facilities for microfabrication and nanofabrication research, mass spectrometry lab, meeting spaces and conference rooms. The triangular design of the building, with labs along two sides, office clusters at one corner, and research support facilities in the middle, fosters collaborative research in bioinformatics, biochemistry, nanoscience and drug discovery, to name a few.

Construction is underway on a new facility in KU’s Central District, the Integrated Science Building (ISB), a 280,000 ft2 structure set to be completed in the summer of 2018. Once complete, CBM2’s operations will move to the cutting-edge laboratories and technical accommodations offered by the ISB. At the heart of Innovation Way, a community linking all science, engineering, mathematics, and pharmacy labs across campus, the ISB will give CBM2 an opportunity to form multidisciplinary collaborations and industry partnerships. The open design of the glass-walled building, with interactive spaces, will facilitate collaborative learning and research. Outside the building, the Jayhawk Trail will offer an attractive multi-modal path connecting science buildings in the West District to the ISB and Engineering complex in the Central District, giving students and researchers an easy way to traverse our growing STEM community.
