Graduate Student with CBM² Wins People's Choice Award at KU 3MT® Competition

Suresh Shivanka, a graduate student in chemistry and researcher at CBM², took home the People's Choice Award at KU's 2025 3 Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition, held March 4th at the Alderson Auditorium in the Kansas Union. Suresh's thesis, "Detecting Cancer Early: The Simplest Way" garnered significant interest from attendees, winning the award by a significant margin.

Preliminary heats for the competition were held on February 25. Out of 20 initial participants, 8 moved on to this final round.

The 3MT® Competition was developed by the University of Queensland to challenge undergraduates to communicate their work in a concise, compelling format. Since its inception in 2008, 3MT® has been held at over 900 worldwide universities in more than 85 countries.

This win marks the third year in a row that a student from the KU Chemistry Department has won an award at the KU 3MT® Competition.
